What’s up, Doc?!

Start the Summer off right!

June 15, 2010

So the sky is clear, the tress green and the Ice cream man seems to have his truck jingle on repeat.  ‘Tis the season for fermented sodas and raw milk ice creams!    Now more than ever is an opportunity to buy from local farmer’s markets and buy fresh veggies, meats and raw dairy.  Talk to the farmers and see what they use to 1) grow their food, 2) chemicals they possibly use 3) how far along they are from being organic.  It is super important that veggies are organic.  Herbicides/pesticides are deadly to all life not just the bugs.  They are toxic chemicals that can wreak severe havoc on the endocrine system and the brain.  On top of that, the chemicals are stored in the adipose tissue (fat cells) and can lead to massive fat storage (weight gain).  Where you get your meats and dairy need to be investigated as well.  Animals need to be treated humanely, given proper food (not man-made grain mixtures) and exercise (meaning free-range, REAL free range) and healthy.  This too is important for the dairy.  Cows given grass compared to cows finished with grain, have milk higher in Omega-3 and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), a fatty acid necessary for brain development and immune function.
So whatever you do, look for fresh, healthy, natural and obviously organic.
